This week Facebook announced their partnership with the online phone service, Skype. Although, there’s a bit of a catch. The service is only availble with Skype 5.0 and for Windows. Sorry Mac users. Your time will come soon. Skype says it should be able to offer Facebook phone calls to Mac users later this year.
For those who actually do have the newest Skype version and Windows, you can enjoy having group chats with up to ten people. Another feature is Facebook Integration. Without leaving Skype, you can set your newsfeed directly within the voice system. From there, you can simply read a friend’s update and then click the “call” tab — only if your friends put their phone number into their Facebook profile.
Perhaps this will be used as the next step in customer service. Rather than messaging a fan back, a company can now have an actual conversation. Do you think this new partnership will have a great impact in the social media world?
